Butterball, LLC Recalls Limited Quantity of Ground Turkey from Two Retailers Due to Possible Foreign Material

Garner, North Carolina – October 13, 2021—Butterball, LLC today voluntarily recalled a limited quantity of ground turkey sold under the Farm to Family® and Kroger brands at specific BJ’s and Kroger retail stores. The recall was prompted by the potential presence of small pieces of hard blue plastic. It is important to note, no other Butterball products are included in this recall, and the current investigation indicates this does not represent a food safety hazard as defined by FDA guidance. The two impacted items are:

  • 2.5-pound packages of Farm to Family tray pack ground turkey sold only at BJ’s stores UPC# 2265571588 with a sell-by date of 10/18/2021 and a time stamp on the side of the tray reading between 2123 and 2302 and P-7345 (see example diagram below)
  • 3-pound packages of Kroger brand 85/15 tray pack ground turkey UPC# 1111097993 with a sell-by date of 10/17/2021 and a time stamp on the side of the tray reading between 2314 and 2351 and P-7345 (see example diagram below)

Butterball was notified of small pieces of blue plastic in specific ground turkey items, which initiated an internal investigation. Butterball is working closely with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ensure impacted products are removed from retail locations, but we ask that you check your refrigerator or freezer for these specific products if you have recently purchased tray pack ground turkey identified above.
